Tattered Outlaws of History is an installation of 12 films made by Fearghus with photographer Dan Dubowitz. The installation imaginatively reconnects the Martello Towers of north County Dublin. These coastal towers are an extraordinary series of buildings that in 200 years have never quite found their function in society. Dan and Fearghus dwell on the place these Martello towers occupy in this peripheral landscape and in the psyche of their ‘lands-end’ communities.
The second part of the exhibition, ‘If the Invader Comes’, is currently being filmed as part of the artists’ residency at Jaywick and is their response to the Martello Towers of England’s East Coast. This second part opens on June 8th where it will run in dialogue with ‘Tattered Outlaws of History’.
‘Tattered Outlaws of History’ is a Per Cent for Art Commission for Fingal County Council. ‘If the Invader Comes’ is commissioned by Commissions East as part of Fleet: Art in the Haven Ports.
